YOUTH BASKETBALL

Deadline to Register

November 10, 2022

Program Information

The Kindergarten program will run once a week on Saturday morning at a time yet to be determined.  Players will use smaller-sized basketballs and play on a (rim) height appropriate to their ability levels. The focus is strictly on skill development, learning self-control, and having fun.

First and second grade will practice once a week on Saturday morning at a time yet to be determined. Players will use smaller-sized balls and play on a (rim) height appropriate to their ability levels. The focus remains primarily on skill development and basic fundamentals all the while learning self-control and having fun.

The K-2 program will run January 7 through February 18. Participants will receive a t-shirt as part of their registration. We ask that they come to practice with a water bottle, clean sneakers, and a positive and willing-to-try attitude.

Grades 3-6 boys and girls are placed on teams and play against other teams from the Southeastern NH Recreational Basketball League which includes Barrington, Deerfield, Northwood, Nottingham, and Oyster River Youth Association. The number of teams is dependent upon the number of registrations.

Third and fourth graders typically practice one night a week in Strafford. We do not know at this time if we will be playing 3v3 on low hoops or 5v5 on 10’ hoops.

Fifth and sixth graders typically practice twice a week (in Strafford or at Coe Brown Gerrish gym). They play 5v5 on 10’ hoops. Games will be on Saturdays from January 7 through February 18.

The 3/4 and 5/6 game or practice schedule has not been determined at this time. We will try to start practices after Thanksgiving and the Jamboree is tentatively scheduled for December 10 or 17. All of the above information is tentative and subject to change. Information will be provided once registrations are complete and teams are formed.

SRS, its athletes, and its families agree to abide by the host team requirements of our players, coaches, and spectators.

Players will receive a game jersey as part of their registration. We ask that on game days, players wear black shorts.

Seeking Referees

There is a tentative clinic that Deerfield will host in early December for individuals 16 years or older interested in officiating youth basketball. Stay tuned - more info to follow.

If you have any questions, are interested in coaching a team, or are interested in officiating, contact Claire Murdough using the link below.

Free Training Session for Coaches
Individuals interested in coaching youth basketball are invited to attend a FREE training session on November 18th. The PDF linked here provides more information about this offering and includes a form to RSVP. This is a great opportunity to set a standard of expectation for volunteers in our communities so that we can grow the game of basketball together.
